Battenburg Lace (Tb8)

Battenburg Lace-
16″ X 20″
(Lowndes County Historical Museum Collection)

Battenburg lace is a form of tape lace. This particular example is formed with purchased machine-made tape that is shaped to follow a design and then anchored with handmade lace stitches. This example also includes a machine-made fancy netting in the center. Using machine-made tapes and netting greatly speeds up the lace making process. This piece is currently on display at the museum. (Lowndes County Historical Museum Collection)
