Teneriffe Lace (2010-043 Tb8)

Teneriffe Lace-
7 1/2″ round
(Sandra Roberts Collection, Lowndes County Historical Museum)

This delicate Teneriffe lace is made by embroidering over spokes of a thread wheel. The middle of this small doily contains needle lace. This is currently on display at the museum.

This doily was owned by Sandra Roberts (1940-2011) who obtained her Elementary Education Master’s Degree from Valdosta State University and taught in numerous places including Brooks County. This doily was passed down to her from her grandmother, Ada Lavina Newman Birch (1885-1970), and her great-aunt, Olive Newman Sleight (1883-1976), who were both from Illinois.
