Founded in 1967, The Lowndes County Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and preserving the rich history of Valdosta and Lowndes County, Georgia. The society operates the Lowndes County Historical Museum. We are located at 305 W. Central Avenue in downtown Valdosta in the historic former Carnegie Library. Our museum provides almost 10,000 square feet of local history displays and research material. The museum grounds also include multiple outdoor exhibits. Over 6,000 individuals, including 2,000 school children, visit the Museum each year. With meeting and guest speaker facilities on site, we host a wide array of gatherings, presentations and activities.
The Lowndes County Historical Society and Museum will be closed temporarily until April, 5th to refresh and update our exhibits and thoroughly clean up after some extensive construction.
We are closed on Federal Holidays
Admission to the museum is free of charge.
