Aerial Downtown Valdosta (color) – ca.1960s2

Downtown Valdosta, looking north west, 1960s

This photo is one of the earliest aerial images of downtown Valdosta in color. Notable details include the 100 block of South Patterson Street to the left of the Daniel Ashley building (the tallest structure at the bottom of the photo) demolished and now the location of Bank of America. In the middle of the image, on the far left, is the original 1905 Valdosta High School next to the unpainted First Baptist. This image is before the James Beck Overpass was built and when downtown was still split by railroad lines, visible at the bottom left is the old Atlantic Coat Lines train depot.
