Research Library

One of our most useful assets is our extensive research library.  Housed on the main floor of the museum, our library of local materials provides resources for those doing family research. Our library is stocked with books on early Georgia and Lowndes County history, a vast genealogy section and scores of official government records, including census and burial records.

We are constantly used as the primary information source for authors, historical researchers, or family members trying to find their “long lost great grandfather” or trace their family roots to an original member or location. So, whether your looking for a relatives address in 1860 or a picture of Paterson Street in 1925, we possibly have it in our archives.

Perhaps our most unique section is the Susie McKey Thomas Newspaper Clippings Archive. We have local newspaper clippings on all types of subjects ranging from which movies playing at the Bijou theatre in 1959 to the activities at Moody Air Force Base.
